The Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija today asked KFOR and EULEX to protect Serbs from the violence of Albanian extremists and ensure safety, referring to the burned house of the Petrovic family in Zociste village.
The Ministry says in a statement that last night’s fire set to the house of the Petrovic family is the latest in a series of incidents and attacks on Serbs south from the Ibar River in the past year.
By causing a crisis in northern Kosovo-Metohija, Kosovo authorities encouraged Albanian extremists to resort to violence and did nothing to protect Serbs south of the Ibar River, the Ministry warned.
The statement reiterates that setting fire to the Petrovic’s house is a clear message of Albanian extremists to Serb returnees as to what awaits them if they should return to their ancient homesteads.
The relevant Ministry has on several occasions acquainted international representatives in the province with the problems and pressure which Serb returnees in Zociste village are faced with, but so far no one has done anything to improve their position.
The Ministry has sent an appeal to EULEX and KFOR to take Serbs south of the Ibar River seriously and to take whatever measures are needed to protect them, because it is obvious that authorities in Pristina will do nothing in this respect or are incapable of securing safety to the Serb community, the statement adds.
