Head of the Serbian government’s team for dialogue with Pristina Borislav Stefanovic said today that the intervention of Kosovo police and the attack of an extremist group on administrative crossings in the north of Kosovo-Metohija are a threat to stability and safety and that they can have negative consequences on the negotiating process.
In an interview to German state radio “Deutsche Welle”, Stefanovic underlined that
the burning of Jarinje administrative crossing committed last night by a group of extremists is unacceptable and harmful, but also unfavourable to all sides in the negotiations.
He stated that representatives of Serbia will not let this unfavourable and negative event impair prospects of achieving a peaceful solution.
These events will badly affect the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, he underlined and noted that a precondition for any agreement whatsoever is to achieve full normalisation and return the situation at the administrative crossings to the previous state.
Stefanovic said that representatives of Serbia negotiated for hours with KFOR commander Erhard Buehler in order to achieve normalisation of the situation, which eventually did happen last night.
He reiterated that the solution to the issue of customs seals can be reached in September, as previously agreed, but that it is unacceptable that either party change unilaterally the situation on the ground.
