Director of the Serbian government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petković said today that de-escalation should be the priority topic in Belgrade’s dialogue with Priština and should be discussed first.
Following a meeting with representatives of the Quint held due to Priština’s latest incursions into Serb institutions in northern Kosovo and Metohija, Petković said that he requested that the European Union, the Quint and all international representatives in Kosovo and Metohija make maximum efforts to stop Albin Kurti’s violence against Serbs and Serb institutions in the southern province.
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stressed that he demanded that the international community’s reaction go beyond a mere statement, and instead involve concrete actions to halt the violence of Albin Kurti.
He stated that European Council President António Costa also called for de-escalation in Priština yesterday and added that this must be on the agenda of the dialogue.
Petković stated that other important topics cannot be discussed if there is a flagrant and severe violation of all human rights of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, adding that Serb institutions in Kosovo and Metohija represent the basis for the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM).
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija stated that Kurti is avoiding forming the CSM and that by closing Serb institutions, he is forcing Serbs out, thereby creating a situation in which, without Serbs, there would be no need for the CSM.
This is absolutely unacceptable for Serbia. The President of Serbia and the Government of the Republic of Serbia will fight and stand with our people in Kosovo and Metohija, said Petković.
