Special KPS units withdraw from Brnjak, Jarinje crossings

Special units of the Kosovo Police Service (KPS) have withdrawn from Brnjak border crossing at about 13.00, and a little earlier from Jarinje crossing as well, after an agreement between Serbian government representatives and KFOR commander Erhard Biler.

Head of the Serbian team for dialogue with Pristina Borislav Stefanovic stated that road blocks on border crossings in the northern part of Kosovo-Metohija will not be removed until agreement is reached on the composition of the staff that will work on administrative border crossings.

The composition of the staff cannot differ from the composition of the local population, he noted.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic harshly condemned last night’s intervention by the KPS special units in Zvecan and Leposavic as an attempt to forcefully integrate north of the province into the so-called “independent Kosovo.”

Dacic told Tanjug news agency that the attempt to take over control of administrative border crossings in north Kosovo is absolutely opposed to the promises made to Serbia that there will be no changes in the field for as long as Belgrade and Pristina are conducting dialogue.

During the entire night Serbs cordoned off Kosovska Mitrovica–Raska main road in Rudare village and Leposavic because of an attempt by the KPS special unit to take over by force Jarinje border crossing at the administrative line between Kosovo and central Serbia.
