The Serbian Prime Minister said that the state union of Serbia-Montenegro, as a signatory to the Dayton agreement, is very interested in the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Republika Srpska, taking into account the Agreement on special and parallel ties.
Ashdown said during the talks that he will fully abide by the Dayton agreement and the Constitution of Bosnia-Herzegovina and that he will not limit or jeopardise the position of Republika Srpska within Bosnia-Herzegovina.
He especially highlighted that he never had intentions to abolish Republika Srpska, and that changes in the army and police there will be carried out only in line with the Dayton agreement.
The talks touched on the cooperation of Serbia-Montenegro and Republika Srpska with the Hague tribunal. Kostunica said that the Serbian government chose the model of voluntary surrender and two-way cooperation with the tribunal. He voiced hope that such cooperation will yield new results in the upcoming period.
Ashdown stressed that by meeting its international obligations, Republika Srpska will help Bosnia-Herzegovina start the process of European integrations more quickly.
