Vojislav Kostunica
In his New Year’s greeting, Kostunica said:
“Dear citizens of Serbia,
A very difficult year is coming to its end. We did not live that year the way we expected and deserved. Still, despite the difficulties, citizens showed a greater democratic and statehood strength than our apparent power showed. The efforts and results are visible in many fields, the patience will certainly yield fruit in the period that is ahead of us. It will be a stable foundation for a better future awaiting Serbia.
The government that I am heading has worked in the best interest of the citizens, with no abuse and corruption. We never tried to magnify our own results. We corrected our mistakes. We accepted objective criticism. We are not a government that wants to make the reality look nicer, nor we are full of promises. That gives us right not to hide from any of the serious temptations awaiting us in the forthcoming year. I tell you, in peace and with certainty, that we will overcome all temptations if we find enough strength in ourselves and confidence in each other, and if we act without being selfish.
The whole of our people needs a communal spirit and mutual respect, which will be beneficial for all. Starting from the fact that we can help the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija. At this moment they need our best wishes as well as our support and help.
If we consider the reality in the world surrounding us, if we respect human rights and our own dignity, and mostly – if we are reasonable, harmonious and resolute, Serbia will, despite the difficulties, move towards its European future and a better life in 2005.
I wish you peace, health and happiness in the New Year.”
