Stefanovic, after meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Ashton, said that the arrest of Mladic removed the last obstacle to Serbia’s candidate for EU membership.
He said that Kosovo and Serbia’s EU integration are not directly tied.
However, the solving of issues of freedom of movement, cadastral issues, telecommunications and civil registers will affect the quality of life of people in Kosovo-Metohija and will help in unblocking the process of European integration of the entire Western Balkans.
He said that Ashton supported the position and ideas of Belgrade.
We received encouragement to continue in that direction. Ashton’s visit contributed significantly to our understanding how to remove the existing obstacles in the topics that have been opened in Brussels, said Stefanovic.
He expressed hope that during the June round of talks in Brussels a successful conclusion will be reached regarding the freedom of movement, cadastral issues, telecommunications and civil registers.
