Kostunica said that the reconstruction of a bridge in Ostruznica, which was hit during the NATO bombing, and the Dobanovci-Ostruznica ring road, is a sign that the situation is getting better in Serbia and that the government is concerned not only with the adoption of important laws, but also with very concrete issues as well - construction of roads, strengthening of infrastructure and economic recovery.
He said that air quality in Belgrade will improve when a large portion of traffic shifts to these bridges.
Serbian Minister of Capital Investment Velimir Ilic, who also attended the opening of the Belgrade ring road, pointed to the importance of the ring road, especially as trucks carrying dangerous materials will no longer have to pass through Belgrade.
He said that a railway bridge in Ostruznica, with construction works underway currently, should also be completed soon.
Ilic said that €20.5 million has been invested in the Dobanovci-Ostruznica ring road, €11 million of which was used for reconstruction of Ostruznica bridge, which was built prior to NATO bombing and cost €36 million.
The contractor is a consortium of Serbian construction firms, including Mostogradnja, Ratko Mitrovic, Planum and the Road Directorate. Ilic said that the second and third phase of construction will begin as soon as necessary funds have been secured, which is being negotiated with the Minister of Finance.
The project of connecting the Novi Sad highway with Dobanovci, and Ostruznica with the Ibar main road, costs around €110 million. The consortium Jugoslavija Raod has won this tender and will be the contractor.
