European Investment Bank to expand support to Serbia

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and EIB Vice-President Gerlando Genuardi agreed at a meeting today that the EIB’s contribution towards the reconstruction and improvement of Serbia’s infrastructure has been significant and that it would be beneficial to expand the bank’s activities to the country’s manufacturing and trade sectors.

The EIB, the European Union’s chief investment institution, restored cooperation with Serbia in late 2001, and has since helped projects to improve and modernise Belgrade’s infrastructure, telecommunications division if the Serbian state power utility EPS, and air traffic control in Serbia-Montenegro. This year, the EIB will co-finance the reconstruction of a motorway between Belgrade and Novi Sad.
