Serbian Deputy Minister of Justice Branislav Bjelica said that fighting organised crime requires regional cooperation, as well as cooperation with those countries with functions of the international community. Only in that way, can the region be turned into an oasis of safety.
Bjelica said, on the close of the second day of meeting, the participants will sign a Memorandum on cooperation of prosecutors of the region, under the auspices of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia-Montenegro Maurizio Massari said that the fight against organised crime cannot be separated from regional efforts to integrate into Europe. He added that organised crime negatively influences both the region's stability and economic growth in individual countries. For that reason, it is necessary to establish concrete cooperation between prosecutors from the countries of southeastern Europe.
The meeting continues tomorrow.
