After the liturgy, Djelic welcomed the announcements that the Seminary might be re-opened in Prizren, which would revive Orthodoxy in this town.
It is very important to work on the return of the displaced persons to Kosovo-Metohija, which can be achieved through combined diplomatic activity on the one hand and concrete actions on the ground on the other, Djelic said.
The beginning of dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with the support of the EU, is expected and it should start from those issues that trouble all those who live in Kosovo-Metohija.
The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that Serbia will continue leading a peaceful policy which will however defend at every moment national interests and the interests of all those living in the province.
Djelic pointed out that Serbia's policy towards Kosovo-Metohija will not change and added that Serbia will never recognise the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo-Metohija.
Serbia knows very well that we need to find a solution for Kosovo-Metohija so that we could join the EU. The same goes for Pristina which cannot go towards the EU without having found a form of compromise with Serbia, Djelic noted.
European future of Serbia is in no way opposed to our fair fight for Kosovo-Metohija. On the contrary, there is synergy, and our path to Europe and Pristina’s desire to join the EU represent an incentive to find a historic compromise between Serbs and Kosovo Albanians, Djelic highlighted.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that we should find a way to introduce a visa-free regime for Kosovo-Metohija, without this harming Serbia’s sovereignty in any way.
Djelic will have Christmas lunch with residents of Prizren and will wrap up his visit to the province by going to the Patriarchate of Pec.
He attended the last night’s Christmas Eve celebration at the Temple of Saint Demetrius in Kosovska Mitrovica, where the consecration and the burning of a Yule log were performed by Bishop of Raska and Prizren Teodosije.
In addition to many believers, the Christmas Eve celebration was attended by Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic, State Secretary of the Ministry Oliver Ivanovic, head of Kosovska Mitrovica District Radenko Nedeljkovic and officials of the municipality of Kosovska Mitrovica.
