Serbia’s foreign policy priorities to remain unchanged in 2011

Minister of Foreign Affairs Vuk Jeremic said late today that Serbia’s priorities in next year are continuation of the EU integration process, defence of territorial integrity, development of regional relations and economic diplomacy.

Jeremic said in a lecture to students of the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis that Serbia sees the world as a whole which relies on four pillars - the EU, Russia, China and the US.
The process of European integration will not be easy and will require hard work and sacrifice, but Serbia will not give up, the Minister stated.
He recalled that Serbia has decided to defend its territorial integrity through political and diplomatic means, which is its second priority, adding that the third priority is development of relations with the neighbours, with whom Serbia still has open issues from the previous period.
In 2010 Serbia has won the role of the regional leader and in the near future it will be the chair country in three regional organisations – the South-East European Cooperation Process, Adriatic-Ionian Initiative and the Central European Initiative, Jeremic underlined.
Economic diplomacy is also very significant taking into account the consequences of the global economic crisis and the importance that it may have for the future development of Serbia, the Foreign Minister concluded.
