Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic stated today that initial talks between Belgrade and Pristina may begin before the year’s end, but serious negotiations are not expected until after the Kosovo government is formed, following the election on 12 December.
In an interview for Beta news agency, Bogdanovic observed that the talks will undoubtedly concern the province’s status, recalling that Belgrade wants them to begin as soon as possible in order to reach a compromise and historic reconciliation between Serbs and Albanians.
The Minister said that Belgrade has adopted a platform for the talks, based on the Constitution and relevant laws, adding that the Serbian team will also include Serbs from Kosovo who will actively participate in all working groups and talks on issues which affect ordinary people in the province.
We must do our best to establish a dialogue and reach a compromise, which is why we have opted for discussing easier issues first, and then moving on to more difficult ones. We believe we will have good results this way, Bogdanovic concluded.
