Labus told a press conference that the EU is expected to pass a decision on ending the problem relating to sugar exports from Serbia-Montenegro to the EU, and also said that a Serbia-Montenegrin-EU textile agreement is due to be reached next week.
He expressed belief that the EU will reach one agreement on association with the state union or two separate agreements – one with Serbia and another with Montenegro.
Labus stressed that he does not expect extraordinary parliamentary elections within the next year, pointing to the fact that the Serbian government was granted a confidence vote on three occasions lately.
Labus expressed expectation that some of the accused before the Hague tribunal will soon appear in court, as it is the condition given by the European Commission for drafting a positive feasibility study on Serbia-Montenegro’s accession to the EU. He also voiced hope that those not yet in custody but accused by the tribunal will surrender.
Labus met today with EU Enlargement Commissioner Ollie Rehn and Director for Western Balkans at the European Commission Reinhard Priebe. Also, Labus met with President of the European parliament's delegation for southeastern Europe Doris Pack.
