At the
3rd session of the Intergovernmental commission for trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation between Serbia and Ukraine, Petrovic underscored that a protocol on the cooperation between the two countries will be signed today.
He stressed that the document refers to cooperation in economy, agriculture and science, voicing his expectation that overall trade between Serbia and Ukraine will be enhanced and talks on Serbia’s WTO accession accelerated.
The State Secretary pointed out that the total trade exchange between Serbia and Ukraine is expected to reach $500,000 by the year-end, adding that it can be significantly improved.
He said that Serbia can export seed, meat, meat products, dairy products and fruit to the large Ukrainian market.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian part of the commission Valeriy Piatnitsky affirmed that Ukraine advocates Serbia’s speedy accession into the WTO and announced the acceleration of negotiations on the issue.
He declared that both Serbia and Ukraine are oriented towards European integration and announced the possibility of signing a bilateral free trade agreement. He noted that the total trade exchange between the two countries before the economic crisis was greater than $800 million.
