Speaking last night on Cacak regional TV, Jeremic affirmed that the Serbian government was unanimous in its call to our citizens not to take part in the elections, because the elections were not called in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, according to which only the chief of the UNMIK can call them, which he failed to do.
The Minister underscored that the official Belgrade's stand is clear noting that we will never recognise the unilaterally declared independence by Kosovo. We will use all diplomatic and political means to find compromising and rational solutions, he stressed.
The talks can start on less contentious topics, such as missing persons or mine clearance along the administrative line. In this way a better atmosphere can be created for more serious talks, he noted.
Jeremic also confirmed that the Belgrade-Pristina talks will be held under the umbrella of the UN and with the mediation of EULEX, making sure that the status of Kosovo and Metohija is in keeping with Resolution 1244.
After the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) ruling and the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution, many expected a large number of recognitions of Kosovo to happen. We can see that this did not happen, he stated.
Jeremic reiterated that Serbia will continue to block accession of the self-proclaimed Kosovo in various international organisations.
