State Secretary of the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija Oliver Ivanovic expressed concern today over the planned reduction of KFOR troops in Kosovo-Metohija because the Kosovo Police Service cannot assume responsibility for the safety of Serbian enclaves, monasteries and churches.
A statement issued by this Ministry says that Ivanovic discussed this matter with KFOR Commander, General Erhard Buehler.
The safety of churches and monasteries must not be endangered and if KFOR reduces its troops, those who remain in the province will have to protect Serbs in unprotected areas and around monasteries, Ivanovic added.
Buehler informed Ivanovic that KFOR recently handed over the monasteries of Zociste and Budisavce to local police, who will now protect it, and that the same will soon be done with Gorioc monastery near Istok.
