Serbian government open for cooperation with trade unions

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica told representatives from major Serbian trade unions today that the government supports social dialogue and stressed the importance of consultations between the government and unions on a regular basis.

At a meeting attended by Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus and ministers Dragan Marsicanin, Mladjan Dinkic, and Slobodan Lalovic, Kostunica said the establishing of a social dialogue calls for an institutional framework. He also said it is necessary to re-activate the Social Economic Council.
Lalovic presented the plan of work of the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Affairs as regards prospective changes to the existing legislation on labour, social-economic council, peaceful conflict resolution, employment, industrial action, and trade unions. He said that the ministry will continue to cooperate with unions in the preparation of these laws.
Representatives of trade unions voiced support to the new government and its stability, saying that the strengthening of a law abiding state and tackling piled problems is in the interest of both sides.
