Vuksanovic announced tomorrow’s presentation of the draft law on university education at the Novi Sad education fair.
He said that a debate on this law will take two weeks, voicing hope that the law will be enacted by May 2005 at the latest.
The European Commission’s delegate in Belgrade, Josep Lloveras, said that the Belgrade University will play a significant part in bringing Serbia-Montenegro closer to the European Union, adding that the Tempus programme is one of the steps towards that goal.
Assistant Minister Miroslav Pilipovic presented a strategy for higher education reform in Serbia, adding that passing a new law on higher education, reforms in line with the Bologna process, integration of Serbia’s education system into the European academic space, and better funding of universities are top priorities.
Tempus aims to establish cooperation between universities from EU countries and partner countries, including the Western Balkans, Eastern European, Central Asian, and the Mediterranean partners.
Serbia-Montenegrin universities have been involved in the Tempus programme since 2001, and have received assistance of €4.5 million a year. The budget for Serbia-Montenegro will be increased to €5 million in the next two years.
