Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus said today during a visit to the Irig municipality that it is necessary to improve cooperation of republic and local authorities and take certain measures in order to speed up economic development of the municipality, first and foremost in the field of fruit growing, viniculture and tourism.

Speaking with Irig municipality officials, Labus said that this visit is part of the government's regular activities and that the purpose is to familiarise the government with and to see up close the problems facing small and underdeveloped municipalities.
During the talks, the possibilities for reviving and improving the growing of fruits and grapevines were discussed. Labus proposed that the municipality take part in a project of the Ministry of Agriculture for development of rural areas.
The officials also discussed the possibilities of developing tourism in Vrdnik through a reconstructing of catering and sporting facilities and enabling the use of thermal waters located in the area. Participants in the meeting also touched on the issue of construction of an Irig ring road, preparation of a programme for construction of a refrigeration plant, and the formation of so-called voluntary cooperatives, that is, the bringing together of estates with the aim of acquiring a better position on the market.
