The Serbian government decided that to propose the UN General Assembly a resolution on Kosovo-Metohija that Serbia has harmonised with all 27 EU countries – 22 that recognised the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo and the five that did not do so.
The government stated said that this document represents compromise that Serbia has made in cooperation with the EU and is fully in line with the decision of the Serbian parliament of 26 July 2010.
The agreed text ends the process before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague and calls for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which is in accordance with Serbia’s principled position that only negotiation can result in a mutually acceptable solution to the Kosovo-Metohija issue that will be confirmed in the UN Security Council.
The proposed resolution does not in any way recognise the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo.
Also, the proposed resolution contains provisions of the UN Charter, allowing Serbia to continue to defend its legitimate national interests in a peaceful and diplomatic way, in cooperation with the EU and all relevant international factors.
