On a visit to the Toplicki Vinogradi vineyards in the village of Gojinovac near Prokuplje, Dragin voiced his desire that Serbia become equal to the greatest producers of wine, such as France, Italy and Spain.
He recalled that for several years now the Ministry has been covering the total costs of planting new vines because it pays the full value of every new certified seedling on each parcel up to 10 hectares owned by a registered farm.
The Ministry also pays between 30% and 40% of the price of posts and the net and between 30% and 50% of the costs for wine cellars and wine processing.
Dragin said that in a joint project with the government of Spain, the Ministry established wine regions in Serbia and a new Law on wine was adopted.
The Minister underlined that the quality of wine in Serbia is being measured according to world standards and cited as most important the fact that Serbia has managed to obtain an export permit from the EU for 63,000 hectolitres of wine.
It is of vital importance that viticulture in the municipality of Prokuplje and the whole of Toplicki District is revived and that one of Serbia’s best known indigenous varieties “Prokupac” returns to the top of the wine production ladder.
