Minister Bogdanovic, State Secretary of the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija Oliver Ivanovic and Bishop of Lipljan Teodosije visited Osojane village near Istok yesterday, where a celebration of nine years of return of Serbs to this village in Metohija was held.
The Minister for Kosovo-Metohija announced that the Serbian government will set aside RSD 10 million for 20 families from Osojane at the end of this month as an incentive for development of agriculture – planting of strawberries, because research carried out by the Ministry has identified strawberry growing as very profitable.
Bogdanovic noted that the relevant ministry has already invested RSD 10 million in development of roads in Istok municipality and development of a utility company in the last seven months, and a considerable amount of funds have been set aside for the underprivileged.
We have to solve all our problems in a peaceful and sober way. Our destiny is to live together with Kosovo Albanians and it is in our interest to accept this as soon as possible, the Minister said.
State Secretary of the Ministry Oliver Ivanovic confirmed that the Serbian government will finance the construction of a kindergarten in Osojane this autumn. For the school year 2011/2012, the plan is to build a residence for the students of the secondary school of agriculture, where Serbian students from the municipalities of Klina, Istok and Pec would live.
During the 2001 return organised by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), 58 Serbian families returned to Osojane. Today around 400 returnees live in this village.
Bogdanovic welcomed the efforts of the interim institutions of self-government in Kosovo-Metohija aimed at reducing tensions in Zac village, which started when Serbs returned to this village and when a group of Albanians stoned them and fired at their tents. This incident was reported to the UN Security Council.
He highlighted that the Serbian government will build five houses in Zac village for Serbian returnees.
He underlined that Serbs and Kosovo Serbs are ready for compromise and talks on all problems because they can be resolved only through dialogue, which is a clear policy of the Serbian government and the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija.
Returnees in Zac village told Bogdanovic that tensions have waned and that they expect help from the Serbian government.
Returnees in Gornji Dragoljevac observed that they don’t have any problems with safety, but that they are dissatisfied with the pace of reconstruction of houses.
Bogdanovic promised the returnees in Dragoljevac a one-off instance of aid in the amount of RSD 20,000 per household and assistance in the form of seed and fertilisers for autumn seeding.
Since 2001, around 2,000 Serbs have returned to 13 villages in Istok municipality. There are another 1,700 requests for return.
