Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus talked today with head of the Directorate for the Western Balkans region of the Council of the European Union Stefan Lehne and said that by adopting a "two-track" approach on the economic plan, a large obstacle for speeding up the process of Serbia-Montenegro's accession to the EU has been removed.

Labus said that cooperation with The Hague tribunal is another barrier in the process of European integrations that has to be eliminated in the shortest time possible.
The two officials looked at the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, with Lehne showing great interest in Labus's initiative for calling an international conference for resolving the province's status.
Labus said that Belgrade must have the initiative because that is the only way to acquire equal status in negotiations and protect interests of the Serbian people and state. He added that the only solution is Serbia calling for the convening of a special conference on Kosovo-Metohija so that the problem could be tackled within a reasonable timeframe.
Touching on the issue of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the best solution would be to extend the federal parliament's mandate by a year, and then to hold referendums in each of the member states.
