The Minister told Tanjug news agency that Serbia is committed to finding a compromise solution for Kosovo-Metohija.
We believe that compromise can be achieved only by peaceful means, through negotiation, and not by making unilateral steps, said the Foreign Minister.
He noted that Serbia is seeking UN support for achieving compromise through negotiation, which is also seen in
Serbia’s resolution submitted by the UN General Assembly, which will be on the agenda of the UN General Assembly in September.
It will be extremely difficult under the new circumstances to obtain a majority in the UN General Assembly to support this resolution, but we will do everything to achieve support. It is essential to preserve peace and stability on the territory of the province, stressed the Minister.
The Minister also sent an appeal to the UN to remain closely engaged on this issue, because this issue requires close cooperation between all international actors.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will meet in New York with ambassadors of countries considered to be close to recognition of Kosovo's independence.
Jeremic is also scheduled to address a Forum of the Non-Aligned Movement today.
A session of the UN Security Council, where the UN Secretary General’s report on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija will be presented, is scheduled for 3 August.
