After the signing ceremony, Jocic said that the fight against organised crime, building operational capacities of an intelligence service and development of a witness protection system are priorities set in the European partnership.
The Minister said that that the Ministry founded the service of general inspector that became operational in June 2003, following a March 2001 recommendation from OSCE.
Ambassador Massari said that OSCE is the first international organisation that supported Serbian police reform after the democratic changes of 2000, adding that OSCE’s strong cooperation with the Interior Ministry is confirmed through the memorandum.
OSCE’s main activities on reforming the Serbian police reform are providing expert counseling and instructions, overseeing progress made in the police and coordinating international support to the reform process, Massari said.
He stressed that OSCE will particularly address priority fields, including police trainings and development, responsibilities of the police, organised crime issues, forensics, border police, police in local communities, investigation of war crimes and strategic development.
