Milosavljevic said at a press conference at the Serbian government that this system will be one of the key instruments for the implementation of the process of planning and development of trade, as envisaged by the Trade Development Strategy.
The Ministry of Trade applied for funds with this project from the National Investment Plan and received them.
The system is divided into three parts. The first contains statistical data from the regular monthly, quarterly and annual research and the second includes special research for 2009 on the basis of which the level of development and organisation of trade can be evaluated.
The third whole gives business-financial indicators and data on the territorial distribution of trade.
Milosavljevic gave an example that the research for last year showed that rebates fell from 24.30% in 2006 to 16.81% in 2009.
He noted that this is a positive step forward which has enabled Serbia to become one of the countries with the cheapest food and drinks in Europe, as confirmed by Eurostat.
The Minister highlighted that it is indicative that rebates are reduced more quickly and to a greater extent in large companies, while they are higher in small companies.
Advisor to the Minister Stipe Lovreta affirmed that rebates in Serbia are falling and added that in the process of the modernisation of the trade network, the number of points of sale fell from 105,000 to 98,000.
Lovreta pointed out that the participation of hypermarkets in trade has increased three times over in three years, adding that hypermarkets account for 14% of total trade and various forms of self-service for more than 50%.
He outlined that rates of profitability have been on the fall over the last three years.
Serbia’s trade is on the verge of profitability, indebtedness of traders is growing and in such circumstances, it is unlikely that they can be an appropriate partner, Lovreta concluded.
Vukmirovic observed that some of the data can be seen on the website
