Tadic stated at the occasion that the bridge will be a symbol of the friendship between China and Serbia, adding that this project is the result of a new cycle of economic measures which Serbia will implement to increase employment and production levels.
Serbia will know that it is heading in the right direction when the employment level rises and building infrastructure is the best way to create new jobs, he highlighted.
China is a major factor in global economy and politics, Tadic remarked.
The Chinese economy has been one of the strongest and most influential in the world for decades and it is highly developed, he stressed.
China’s role in world politics is becoming exceedingly important and China’s opinion is consulted regarding all major issues, he underlined.
The construction of this bridge of friendship between Serbia and China will be a historical step forward for Belgrade and Serbia. It will connect two of the biggest rivers in Europe and open up new economic opportunities, declared Tadic.

The completion of the bridge will create conditions for housing and urban development on the left bank of the Danube, he explained, adding that the three biggest bridges in Europe are being constructed in Serbia currently.
After decades of standing still, Serbia is moving ahead with major infrastructure projects once again. Roads and bridges are being built and investment is being made in the energy sector. The Serbian people can be proud and I am proud of Serbia’s strategic partnership with China. This is only the first of Serbia and China’s many joint projects to come, asserted Tadic.
Bangguo emphasised that the construction of the bridge will start in April next year. He outlined that he hopes the bridge will be completed on time.
Relations between Serbia and China are constantly improving and good political relations should be accompanied by good economic cooperation, he observed.
The Chinese and Serbian people have close friendly ties, he affirmed, adding that the agreement on strategic partnership has opened a new chapter in mutual relations.
The Chinese government will encourage major companies to invest in Serbia and Serbian companies will be most welcome in China. It is hoped that the governments of the two countries will create a good investment climate and opportunities for businesses to cooperate, he elaborated.
The foundation stone laying ceremony for the bridge of friendship between Serbia and China was attended also by Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, several government ministers, Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, Mayor of Belgrade Dragan Djilas and other functionaries.
The Zemun – Borca Bridge is the first infrastructure project to be carried out under the agreement between Serbia and China signed in Beijing in August 2009. The project will cost €170 million.
The project also includes the construction of access roads, the total length of which will be 21.5 kilometres, as well as eight smaller bridges and a number of intersections.
Under the construction contract the engaging of subcontractors and use of building materials from Serbia cannot be less than 45% of the total financial value of the project.
The financial agreement between the Serbian government and the Chinese Exim bank will be signed on 15 July. The deadline for completion of the bridge is three years and the access roads need to be completed in two years.
The holder of the project is the Ministry for National Investment Plan while the City of Belgrade is a beneficiary and partner in the project.
