The statement from the Council’s extraordinary session says that the terrorist act of Albanian separatists in northern Kosovska Mitrovica resulted in one death and the injuring of several people who peacefully protested over the illegal and violent attempt to open an office of the so-called Kosovo government.
The Council extended its deepest condolences to the family of doctor Mesud Dzekovic who was killed during the terrorist act.
This obvious attempt of implementing the illegal Plan for northern Kosovo deserves the most severe reproof and immediate elimination of all consequences of this act.
The attempted opening of an illegal office of the interim institutions of Kosovo in northern Kosovska Mitrovica is just one more in a series of violent attempts at establishing a “new reality” in the territory of southern Serbian province, the Council stated and added that throwing an explosive device on protesters is a flagrant terrorist act.
Also, today’s event is a direct provocation and violation of all principles of the UN Security Council and the EU, which dissociated themselves from the illegal Plan for northern Kosovo.
By supporting and carrying out the attempt at opening an office of the interim institutions, International Civilian Representative Pieter Feith has openly reached for methods that are opposed to the policy of the EU and bears the objective responsibility for all consequences of today’s tragic events, reads the conclusion from the Council.
The Serbian National Security Council requests from the EU and NATO to disable any possible future attempt of one-sided alternation of the situation on the ground in Kosovo-Metohija, and to prevent any act that might lead to implementation of the illegal Plan for northern Kosovo.
The Council requests that those responsible be immediately located and appropriately punished and that any further attempts at opening the office of the interim institutions of Kosovo be prevented because this violates peace and stability in the southern province and in the entire region.
The Council reiterated its full commitment to peace and to solutions based on agreement, which will preserve safety in Kosovo-Metohija and in southeastern Europe.
