Among other things, the bills envision higher taxes on luxury items such as yachts, planes, and some types of weapons, and the scrapping of tax on financial transactions on January 1, 2005.
The Serbian government believes that a decision by the United States to temporarily suspend aid to Serbia-Montenegro will not endanger the relations between the two countries, according to a statement following a session today.
The statement also stressed the importance of the continuation of an open dialogue and cooperation with the United States, as well as talks between the two countries' officials.
The statement went on to say that the US State Department has said that the suspended aid can be released at any time. The government recalled that despite the assessment that Serbia-Montenegro's cooperation with the Hague tribunal has been inadequate, the US administration also noted that since 2000, Belgrade has done more than any other country in the region when it comes to cooperation with the tribunal.
At today's session, the government also abolished a council for judiciary reform and set up a new body to replace it, the Commission for judiciary reform. Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic was appointed as head of the commission.
The government also formed a commission to asses the damage caused by ethnic-Albanian terrorists in Kosovo-Metohija in 2004 and set up a working group tasked with drafting a plan for territorial autonomy in Kosovo-Metohija. The government also decided to approve 21 million dinars from the state budget to finance the distribution of commodities to Kosovo-Metohija from the state commodity reserves.
The government formed a commission to establish the ownership structure in the mobile phone operator Mobtel. The commission is to submit a report to the Serbian government within 30 days.
At the session, the government replaced the general managers and the members of administrative boards of the state run oil company NIS, state power utility EPS, and national flag carrier Jat Airways.
The government also appointed new deputy ministers of labour, employment and social affairs and international economic relations.
Vladimir Bozovic of the Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija was appointed as new inspector-general in the Ministry of Interior, reads the statement.
