Accompanied by Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Patriarch Irinej, Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic and Minister of Religion Bogoljub Sijakovic visited the Pec Patriarchate today in order to prepare for the Patriarch’s enthronement at the monastery near Pec, following the inauguration in the Belgrade main church on 24 January.
Sijakovic said that the enthronement of Patriarch Irinej is also a big event for Serbia in state and secular terms.
He confirmed that there is no interference in preparations for this act, which, in cooperation with the international community is scheduled to take place on 4 October.
This event is important not only for Serbia in terms of the current political situation when our country is struggling to preserve its integrity in Kosovo-Metohija, but also in terms of efforts for the church to keep its role that it has had throughout history.
Patriarch Irenej, who is now on his first visit to the Patriarchate of Pec since his appointment as SPC Patriarch, pointed out that every visit to this central home of the SPC is a special event.
He recalled that for many years he had lived in Kosovo-Metohija, in Prizren, and reiterated that the Patriarchate of Pec is his home.
The SPC Patriarch assured all believers who remained living in Kosovo-Metohija as well as those who have returned that they should have full confidence in the SPC.
Also visiting the Patriarchate of Pec were Metropolitan Amfilohije and Adviser to the Serbian President for Kosovo-Metohija and the SPC Mladjan Djordjevic.
