Serbian Deputy Minister of Energy and Mining Slobodan Sokolovic said today that there will be no fuel shortage in Serbia, adding that private suppliers have pledged to do their best to avert such an occurrence.
Sokolovic told the Tanjug news agency that ministry officials met yesterday with representatives of domestic and foreign private oil companies to discuss the current situation in the local derivatives market. According to him, these private firms stressed that a long-term presence in the Serbian market is in their best interest despite existing difficulties.
He said the participants voiced readiness to deliver fuel to the market as soon as possible in light of a disparity between the global oil price and domestic fuel prices.
Sokolovic said private fuel trades are going to submit assessments to the ministry as to how much fuel they have available and how much they can sell in the market.
He also said that state oil company NIS will deliver sufficient quantities of fuel on a regular basis.
