Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said today that negotiations on the Kosovo-Metohija issue would be possible only within the framework of the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and on condition of transparency.
Jeremic,
who is visiting New York to attend a non-proliferation conference, stated to the Tanjug news agency that Serbia has consistently advocated peaceful dialogue as a means to find a solution based on compromise and international law for the Kosovo-Metohija issue.
This is the only way to achieve sustainable and lasting stability in the region, he said.
However, the framework for negotiations can only be Resolution 1244 and talks would have to be conducted in a transparent manner, said Jeremic, indicating that the international community is preparing for fresh negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina.
It is crucially important for Serbia not to react to provocation and pressure which will increase with time, he said.
We must remain calm and true to our principled stance and maintain a clear vision of how we will solve the Kosovo-Metohija issue, stressed Jeremic.
