The Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija harshly condemned the stoning of a camp of UNHCR tents in the village of Zac, where Serb returnees have been temporarily accommodated.
The Ministry says in a statement that the aim of this act of vandalism is to discourage the return of IDPs and prevent them from coming back to their homes after a decade of exile.
The Ministry called upon the international community and the UN peace mission in the province to act in line with their mandate and prevent the extremist violence directed against returnees to the Serbian province.
The statement highlights that the proper Ministry was repeatedly pointing out to representatives of the international community, EULEX and KFOR that extremists were trying to prevent the return of displaced persons in every way possible.
For this reason, the Ministry requests that the UN civil and military mission in the province influence the interim authorities in the province and prevent attacks on returnees, provide basic safety and enable an unimpeded return.
Also, the Ministry urged returnees to the village of Zac not to be intimated by attacks from Albanian extremists because the state of Serbia will offer them every kind of assistance possible so that they could stay in their homeland.
