The Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija has expressed regret over the decision to transfer the jurisdiction of securing the cultural and historical monuments at Gazimestan from KFOR to the Kosovo Police Service (KPS), given that the security situation in the southern Serbian province is still bad.
Gazimestan
Experience shows that since 1999 Serbian historical and cultural heritage, including monuments of world heritage, has constantly been subject to attacks by Albanian extremists, and the only objective of such systematic vandalism is to destroy all traces of centuries of Serb presence in Kosovo-Metohija.
The number of incidents in which Serbian monuments and relics were destroyed since 1999 provides no guarantee that they will be protected and preserved by the KPS.
This decision on the withdrawal of KFOR from Gazimestan is wrong and creates doubt in the sincere intention to permanently preserve and protect this monument of great cultural and historical significance for the entire Serbian people.
The Ministry is inviting KFOR to again re-examine its decision to withdraw from Gazimestan.
