Popovic thanked the Japanese government for the aid, worth more than €22,000, which will be used in the first stage of building a database on hazardous waste. Popovic said that this donation will help resolve key problems in Serbia’s environmental protection.
Ambassador Tanabe said the purpose of the donation, which includes computers, digital cameras, and other equipment, is to develop a database on environmental protection.
Serbian Environmental Protection Administration Director Miroslav Nikcevic said this donation is just a small portion of assistance Japan has been giving to Serbia, given that Japan is Serbia’s largest donor in the field of environmental protection.
Nikcevic stressed that, apart from technical assistance, the Japanese government is also providing staff training courses on waste management. A number of the ministry’s employees have already attended this course in Japan, he added.
