Serbia wishes to resolve Kosovo-Metohija issue solely by peaceful means

Director of the Serbian government’s Office of Media Relations Milivoje Mihajlovic said today that the Serbian government has a pragmatic approach to the issue of Kosovo-Metohija and it has moved the issue to the domain of international law.
Speaking in Gracanica to journalists from Kosovo-Metohija, Mihajlovic said that the Serbian government launched a diplomatic initiative and now that the issue of the legality of the unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovo-Metohija has been put before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the aim of preventing more countries from recognising Kosovo-Metohija and blocking its membership in international organisations has been achieved.
This government wishes to resolve the issue of Kosovo-Metohija exclusively through peaceful means and does not want to take any steps which might harm the people of Kosovo-Metohija, regardless of whether they are Serbs, Albanians, Roma or any other ethnic group, said Mihajlovic.
It is realistic to think that after an ICJ ruling, negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina will be resumed, he said.
Serbia cannot enter the EU without Kosovo-Metohija, just as the southern province cannot begin its EU integration process without establishing good relations with Serbia. Joint efforts are required to overcome these obstacles, said Mihajlovic.
The top priority is to prevent conflict from taking place again and the way to accomplish this is reconciliation. In order to reach reconciliation it is very important to investigate crimes and dispense justice, Mihajlovic said.
