Strategy for the north of Kosovo is a provocation

Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said today that the plan of the International Civilian Office and the provisional institutions of self-government in Pristina for the north of Kosovo-Metohija is a provocation.

Jeremic said that provocative announcement of illegal institutions in Pristina and illegal international organisations cannot contribute to the stability of the Serbian southern province.

He stressed that the International Civilian Office and Pristina are preparing a strategy envisioning decentralisation of municipalities in northern Kosovo-Metohija as well as enforcement of Kosovo laws in that part of the province.

The Minister also said that this envisages local elections in three municipalities in the north before the year’s end, that is, in Zvecan, Leposavic and Zubin Potok.

Jeremic said that the situation in Kosovo-Metohija is complex and serious, adding that because of that the Serbian delegation at the UN Security Council session on Friday, dedicated to the Serbian province, will be headed by President Boris Tadic.

Serbia is committed to the search for a compromise solution and a way to continue cooperation, regardless of the differing stances about its southern province, he underlined.

Jeremic said that Serbia is doing all it can to preserve peace and stability in every part of its territory, including the southern province where it does not have full administrative capacity.
