Intensive efforts must be made to resolve differences within Serbian community in Strpce

Serbian Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic said this evening that it is necessary to make every effort to resolve differences within the Serbian community in the municipality of Strpce.

In a statement to TV B92, Bogdanovic said that these differences are not helping the situation of the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, stressing that Serbs must not become divided into those who took part in the elections in Kosovo-Metohija and those who did not.

He appealed to the Serbs in the municipality to end mutual conflict regarding governance and to work together in the interest of the Serbian community, adding that the Serbian government supports the Strpce authorities elected in May 2008 when local elections were held in Serbia.

Speaking about the initiative of certain representatives of the international community and the wish of the Albanians to integrate northern Kosovo into the so called “independent state”, Bogdanovic said that this cannot be done and that such measures are dangerous and could give rise to new tensions and conflicts in the northern part of the province.

Those who have initiated this idea will have to take responsibility for consequences, stressed the Minister, adding that Serbia does not wish to give up any part of Kosovo-Metohija and that it will make every effort to keep Serbian institutions alive in that area.
