South East European countries sign Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening local and regional governance structures

As part of a two-day ministerial conference on "Effective Democratic Governance at the Local and Regional Level" in Zagreb, ministers from South East European countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening local and regional governance structures.

Noting that the second day of the conference focused on democratic governance at the local and regional level, Serbian Minister of State Administration and Local Self-Government Zoran Loncar stressed that power decentralisation is the strategic goal of the Serbian government.
A new Serbian constitution will also include provisions concerning local government and power decentralisation, Loncar added.
Croatian President Ivo Sanader addressed participants in the conference, chaired by Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe Special Coordinator Erhard Busek.
