Kosovo police arrest Gora mayor

The Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija announced that the Kosovo Police Service (KPS) arrested the mayor of Gora Avdi Aliju this afternoon without any warrant or explanation.
The statement said that the KPS took Aliju from his office to the detention centre in Dragas. His associates and family are not allowed to contact him.
The Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija requires EULEX to intervene urgently, provide an explanation for Avdi Aliju’s arrest and to ensure respect for laws, procedures and human rights.
The arrest of the Gora mayor caused tension and great concern among the Gorani, who, as well as the Serbs are also exposed to the self-will of the so-called provisional Kosovo institutions.
The Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija demands that EULEX and other international organisations in the province protect the rights of the Gorani and other non-Albanians and to prevent the aspirations of the so-called Kosovo's provisional institutions to forcibly assimilate and “albanise” the Gorani, concludes the statement.
