Serbia to start delivering electricity to northern Kosovo-Metohija

State Secretary of Energy and Mining Nikola Rajakovic stated that Serbia is going to ensure a humanitarian delivery of electricity to the northern part of Kosovo-Metohija, which has been without electricity since yesterday afternoon.
Rajakovic told the Beta news agency that Serbia will initiate the Novi Pazar–Valac long-haul electricity transmission line, adding that electricity will be delivered this afternoon.
He recalled that electricity supply issues broke out yesterday at 5 pm when long-haul lines connecting the Valac electric transformer station in the north of Kosovo-Metohija with power plants were shut down.
This has left the entire northern part of Kosovo-Metohija in a blackout and now schools and hospitals do not have electricity, he said.
Rajakovic said that technical preparations are underway to allow the long-haul transmission line to transfer electricity from Serbia, noting however that this will not be enough for everyone, but will help to alleviate the situation.
