Orthodox cemeteries in Kosovo to be renovated

Assistant Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Bojan Andjelkovic said that the Ministry will start clearing up and renovating all damaged cemeteries in the southern Serbian province.
Andjelkovic told Radio Television Serbia that fences around all orthodox cemeteries will be rebuilt and demolished or destroyed tombs replaced with new ones.
He said that the old cemetery in Djakovica, where French soldiers who fought in the First World War are also buried, was completely demolished and will be the first to be renovated.
In the past ten years over 120 orthodox cemeteries in Kosovo-Metohija have been vandalised. This has to stop and the best protection for the cemeteries will be provided by the citizens who are waiting to return to their homes, Andjelkovic said.
He added that international missions will be duly informed about the renovation schedule.
Apart from Serbs, Andjelkovic said that Jews, French, Russian and other soldiers are also buried in orthodox cemeteries. Therefore all those who are willing to help clear up the cemeteries may feel free to join us, he concluded.
