Reaching agreement with EULEX on judiciary in Serbia’s interest

Serbian Minister of Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic said that there are no Albanian custom officers at the administrative line with Kosovo. It is EULEX custom officials who monitor the transport of goods and they are not charging customs duty.
In an interview with the daily Politika, Bogdanovic said that because of the vacuum that exists within the judiciary it is in Serbia’s interest to reach an agreement with EULEX concerning these matters.
He said that certain problems exist when it comes to customs because Serbia cannot accept that customs revenues go towards the budget of a self-declared country that it does not recognise, and it is clear that Serbia does not wish to finance the institutions of Kosovo in this manner.
He said that European institutions expect that according to the protocol on police cooperation between Serbia and EULEX, Serbia will make all efforts to prevent smuggling and crime, which is also in Serbia’s interest.
Commenting on the data presented by the OSCE on September 3 in Pristina, according to which in more than 70 cases the property of displaced Kosovo Serbs was sold without their knowledge, Bogdanovic said that the OSCE report confirms what Serbia has been warning them about for years.
The Minister said that the report is discouraging but the fact that it was presented gives hope that the international community will try to resolve this problem. This is one of the reasons why Serbia took great care of its realty and land registry. We moved the registry offices precisely because of these problems, said Bogdanovic.
The Minister said that he expects the EULEX judiciary to demand that the authorities in Pristina restore property to its rightful owners.
