World Bank writes off Kosovo's external debt

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic tonight stated that the World Bank has decided to write off Kosovo's external debt of almost $550 million.
The World Bank today informed the Serbian government of their decision, the Minister said, noting that this does not mean that Belgrade will recognise the unilaterally declared Kosovo independence.
He recalled that last year the government demanded that the World Bank relieve Serbia of paying off the debt as Serbian tax authorities do not collect taxes in the southern Serbian province.
The money can now be used to help Kosovo Serbs, concluded the Minister.
