Agreement with EULEX to be signed

Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic today said that the agreement to be signed between representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and EULEX will be to the benefit of all Serbian citizens and will not harm Serbia’s state policy.

In an interview to the Beta news agency, Bogdanovic said that the agreement on police cooperation has been fully harmonised, voicing his expectation that it will soon be signed.
The Minister explained that the document is a continuation of the cooperation which Serbia has maintained with UNMIK, reiterating that this will benefit all Serbian citizens, including those in Kosovo-Metohija.
He noted that Serbia’s state policy will in no way be affected as it has been firm from the very start and adamant in its refusal to recognise the fictitious Kosovo state and its institutions.
The only goal of the agreement is an adequate exchange of information with EULEX with the aim of preventing incidents and conflicts in the southern Serbian province.
The preservation of peace in the province is in Serbia’s best interest since our previous experiences tell us that the most common victims of incidents, riots and ethnic cleansing were Serbs, the Minister stressed.
Bogdanovic recalled that Serbia has no jurisdiction in Kosovo-Metohija and cannot search for criminals there, adding that this agreement will help to solve numerous homicides and crimes committed against Serbs and other non-ethnic Albanians.
The Minister noted that Serbia has a firm agreement with EULEX regarding the protocol on cooperation, therefore Pristina’s opposition to it is useless.
Recalling that citizens of Kosovo-Metohija have been excluded from the visa liberalisation process because there was no adequate control of the traffic of people, goods and capital, Bogdanovic voiced his hope that the protocol with EULEX will help them to be put on the Schengen ’white list’ as well.
