Coordinating Centre for Kosovo-Metohija head Nebojsa Covic said yesterday that the Kosovo standards document cannot alter UN Security Council Resolution 1244, adding that substantial autonomy, stemming from Resolution 1244, must be enforced.
The national strategy for Kosovo calls for the protection of local Serb population, its history and cultural monuments, said Coordinating Centre deputy head Branislav Krstic. The
strategy stipulates both Serb and ethnic Albanian rights in the province, Krstic added, noting that the only solution to the Kosovo problem is to create two separate entities.
This, however, does not imply an independent Kosovo or a divided province, he said and explained that the solution is not in violation of Resolution 1244 and is modeled upon the existing solutions in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus.
Stressing that he is convinced that the two-entity solution would benefit not only the interest of the ethnic Albanian community in the province but also the relations with Albania, Krstic added he sees Kosovo's future as part of Serbia-Montenegro's and Albania's accession to the European Union.
