Sutanovac,
who is heading the Serbian delegation, comprising representatives from the Defence Ministry and Serbian business people, on an official two day visit to Iraq, told the Beta news agency that the agreement is a good starting point for the two countries to develop cooperation, adding that apart from weapons and military equipment, Serbia may offer other products to Iraq.
The Minister said he informed the Iraqi delegation of the possibility of Iraqi soldiers attending the Military Academy in Belgrade.
He recalled that last year the Serbian defence industry agreed to export small arms worth $235 million to Iraq.
The Utva factory from Pancevo has agreed to manufacture 20 Lasta-95 training aeroplanes for the Iraqi air force, he said.
The Minister stressed that the Serbian delegation also offered agricultural and infrastructure cooperation to Iraq.
The Iraqi delegation clearly showed its interest in developing cooperation with Serbia, said Sutanovac, adding that he is convinced that Serbian products will soon be placed on the Iraqi market.
During the visit to Iraq, Serbian delegation also met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Kamel al-Maliki, as well as representatives from the trade, interior and energy ministries.
Minister Sutanovac presented the Iraqi Defence and Interior Ministers with Serbian Army Officers’ swords.
Apart from Minister Sutanovac, the Serbian delegation comprised Director General of the Jugoimport Company Stevan Nikcevic and business people Zoran Drakulic and Slavenko Slavic.
