Assistant Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Policy Radmila Katic-Bukumirovic told a press conference that the implementation of this programme was launched on October 1 and will end in late August 2006.
According to her, the project resulted from a two-year cooperation with the Swedish labour market administration and SIDA and will be implemented in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis.
Employment Service Director Radovan Ristanovic said that the project will reduce the level of administrative affairs in this institution and improve its work efficiency. According to him, the employees at the Employment Service spend 50 percent of their time on administrative tasks, 35 percent on providing counseling to the unemployed, and 15 percent on contacts with employers.
According to the data from the Employment Service, there are 1.5 million out of eight million citizens who are currently working in Serbia. There are 839,484 unemployed persons registered in the Employment Service who are actively in search of a job.
The event was also attended by representatives of the Swedish Embassy to Belgrade and Swedish labour market officials.
