Serbia to hold presidential election on June 13

A presidential election in Serbia will be held on June 13, Parliament Speaker and Acting President of Serbia Predrag Markovic announced yesterday.
Serbia has been without an elected president since Dec 29, 2002, when the term of office of Milan Milutinovic expired. Since then, three attempts to elect a head of state have failed due to insufficient voter turnout.
On Feb 25, 2004, the Serbian parliament approved changes to the election legislation, abolishing a 50 percent minimum turnout in the first round of a presidential poll.
Under the new regulations, a head of state will be elected regardless of the number of ballots cast.
